BSNL and DoP plans to set up ATMs in rural India

The Department of Posts (DoP) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) are planning to put ATMs in rural areas across the India.

DoP and BSNL have signed an agreement to put ATMs in rural India. In rural areas of India post offices would be used as sites for providing towers for BSNL. BSNL will also use services of postmen for collecting telephone bills in the remote areas. According to the agreement, BSNL will use postmen as mobile PCOs. When postman will go a village, he would carry a mobile phone with him. People can use mobile with him and pay charges. This will provide additional income to the postman and also telephone facilities in villages. BSNL is planning to offer this services in all those areas where WLL services are present. This network will be based on satellite and optical fibre cables (OFC).
