Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd is planning to launch Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX) services in India.

The company is planning to roll out WIMAX solution in about six months. The company is testing WIMAX technology, which offers broadband service to subscribers without a physical wire connection with an operator. The technology enables the Internet connectivity at faster speeds and for much longer ranges than current wireless technologies. VSNL has partnered with Aperto Networks for the deployment of multi-service broadband wireless systems. Currently VSNL is providing Wi-Fi technology, in which radio wave is providing Internet access up to 30 meters with any connected wire. While WIMAX technology can provide Internet connectivity up to 30 miles. The Government has to finalise the spectrum allocation with six months, so that service providers can provide WIMAX technology.
