Emphasis on e-Tourism in Kenya

Information and Communications Minister of Kenya, Mutahi Kagwe has stated that tourism marketing expenditures could drastically reduce if players use e-Tourism.

Kagwe has mentioned that tourism players should embrace ICT to increase tourism earnings. While speaking at an e-Tourism conference in Nairobi on November 21, 2006, Kagwe said developing countries attract 35 percent of the international tourists annually but they have been unable to increase tourism profits because of low levels of internet access. He also stated that China has agreed to construct Code Division Multiple Access-CDMA rural access system for Kenya to facilitate communication within all areas of the country. The construction of The East African Marine Systems will commence following an agreement with global telecommunications service provider Etisalat to link Mombasa and Fujairah in the Gulf of Oman, the cable is expected to be ready for service by November 2007.
