The first ever solar-powered cyber community centre in the South Pacific was established by VIA Technologies Inc., as a standing proof of the concept of implementation of  solar computing, a key computing initiative to drive environment-conscious computing.

Developed with the Samoan ICT Secretariat, VIA pc-1 Information Community Centre in Samoa is all set to be accessible for addressing all livelihood issues of e-Education, e-Health and e-Governance for the benefits of local residents, and to provide business opportunities for the recipient and surrounding communities, as well as offer Internet access to tourists. This successful launch is expected to set a role model for similar IT centres to develop around the world to help bridge digital divide, especially in remote locations of the world. VIA is working with major international organisations and governments to facilitate further such ventures.
