Pakistan geared to become regional hub of IT and telecom business

Pakistan is geared to become the regional hub of IT and Telecom business as stated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz.

He said that owing to the deregulation and privatisation policies and opening up of telecommunication sector coupled with various investment-friendly incentives, the country is geared to become the regional hub of IT and Telecom business. He mentioned that telecommunication today is the fastest growing sector in Pakistan with 27 percent tele-density and with 37 million cellular phone subscribers. The use of cellular phones among low-income subscribers is growing and in rural areas, the government is providing the facility of phones through the system of wireless local loop. Pakistan has come a long way in developing the IT industry and the total size of IT business in Pakistan has reached about 2 billion dollar with 50 percent growth per annum during the last three years as stated by the PM.
