At a national meeting on e-Governance, recently held in Beijing, China, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice-Premier Huang Ju have called for faster and more comprehensive development of government websites in order to provide a more better and transparent on-line services to citizens.

 

According to a recently released survey under the State Council, China had more than 2.6 million websites by the end of 2005, of which more than 100,000 are government portals. The goal of e-Governance development is to set up a nationwide electronic governance network by 2010 to provide a mechanism for information sharing.
