The Government of the Indian state Karnataka, in collaboration with Intel, has announced 'Gyanodaya', a Government Assisted PC Purchase Program which aims to encourage PC adoption among State Government employees and bridge the digital divide by providing easy and affordable PC purchase options.

With this Program, the Government will make PCs more accessible for employees and therefore enable more households to learn new skills at home. The government expects the children of its employees to benefit the most, as the PC and the Internet become resources for home study. The Program lets employees buy a home PC under simple financing options from technology players such as HP, PCS, HCL and Microsoft among others, with multiple hardware and software options at attractive price points. Easy financing options are available, from public sector banks and other financial institutions that offer a low EMI, minimal documentation, low processing fees and an easy approval/disbursal process. A PC may be available at an EMI of as low as Rs. 399 for four years.
